Personal Checks Still as Popular as Ever Print E-mail

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when you write personal checks. You should never write a personal checks to anyone you don't trust, because the check you write has your checking account number on it. If this person is not trustworthy, they can take that checking account number and use it to try to access your account to get more money out of it than they are authorized to take out.

When you write a check, use a pen with ink that can't be altered. This means it's impossible to tamper with the check and try to put a different amount on the check; this makes sure that the check is only cashed for the amount you've written it for. If you use ink it can be tampered with, there are chemicals that will "erase" the ink so that thieves can write larger amounts on the check, or change the payee to their names instead of to your original payee.

There are also other things to keep in mind when you write personal checks. Make sure that you spell the company or individual name correctly. Write legibly so that the bank can read what you've written and will dispense the proper amount of money to the proper person or company.
